Our Story

Amish-built, event barn with white shutters and black decorative hinges under a Hudson Valley sky, surrounded by green grass and trees at La Luna Farm.

La Luna Farm, is a private, 120-acre, working horse farm with event spaces and accommodations in the heart of the Hudson Valley. The farm is minutes from the vibrant Hudson Valley college town, New Paltz, and has easy access to world-class outdoor recreation - including bicycling, rock climbing, and hiking at Mohonk Preserve, and walking on Historic Huguenot Street.

La Luna Farm dates back to the 1800’s when it was owned by the Hasbrouck Family, one of the original “patentees” of New Paltz that migrated to New Paltz in the late 1600’s. In 1843 after a wedding proposal on the farm, it is said that feisty Rachel Jane Hasbrouck decided to test the legitimacy of the diamond on her new engagement ring by using it to scratch her name onto a window pane in the main Farmhouse. The signature remains on one of the wavy glass panes.

The Schoolhouse Cottage, which is now used as one of the farm’s four guest accommodations, was originally a one-room, rural schoolhouse.

Over the years, the farm has had a handful of stewards including a gentleman farmer who, with his family, lived on the property for much of the 1900s. A photographer later sold the farm to the current owners who have boarded and trained horses and riders since 2008.

The land was here long before us. We are forever grateful and honored to care for it and to share this amazing setting with you and your guests.

La Luna offers each of us a unique, timeless connection to the Hudson Valley. Big sky. Quiet mornings. Golden light. Green pastures. Stone walls. Winding paths. From sunrise to sunset, from open skies to evening stars, and yes, to summer lightning bugs, La Luna Farm makes a perfect setting to celebrate.
